Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac
In spite of being viewed as the "other guys" in some Mac
users' minds, Microsoft has generally put out an excellent productivity suite
for the Mac with Microsoft Office. Though the latest package is still not on
par with the Windows version (you get only the four main programs--a big
difference when you consider the Windows version has 10), Microsoft made a big
leap with this latest version for the Mac in several other ways. Certainly many
Mac users will look first at Apple's iWork for a productivity suite, and it is
a great office suite in its own right. But if you work with primarily Windows
users who use Office, it's tough to beat the automatic compatibility of using
the same programs. All of the new tweaks to the interface and each of the apps
in the suite make Office 2011 for Mac a great option, but with the rise of
cloud-based computing and online office suites like Google Docs, we wonder how
long the big desktop apps like Office will remain on top. This latest Office
client for Mac is definitely a solid offering, but how long can Microsoft hold
on to its dominance?

Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Mac
Photoshop CS5 greatly expands the toolset that Adobe offers in its
flagship product, charting new ways to make image manipulation easier while
making older tools work better than before. Photoshop has been in the English
lexicon as a term to edit images for a long time, but the latest version of
Adobe's flagship program stretches the canvas of manipulation much farther than
ever before. The look of the program has changed so little from Photoshop CS4
that users of that version should be instantly comfortable with this major
update, but Photoshop Creative Suite 5 Extended gives photographers, artists,
designers, and LOLcats obsessives a stunning array of new tools. Among the new
features in Adobe's flagship image-editing software are automatic lens
corrections, High Dynamic Range toning, automated editing tools, and
significant improvements to creating 3D images.

Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard For Mac
Apple is careful to point out that Snow Leopard isn't a complete
system overhaul, but rather a collection of hundreds of smaller refinements to
make Leopard run more gracefully. Even if you're not a current Leopard user,
the $169 package that includes Snow Leopard, iLife, and iWork is a steal for
the system upgrade and two of Apple's major software suites, not to mention the
long-pined-after inclusion of Microsoft Exchange compatibility. Unfortunately,
for those on PowerPC systems, Snow Leopard only works with Intel Macs.
